INTO THIRD ROUND

Juan Martin Del Potro has defeated Gilles Simon of France in the third round of the men’s tennis singles tournament of London Olympics. With this victory, Del Potro has secured a place in the quarter finals. Del Potro is the highest ranked Argentinean player in the competition. The match between Del Potro and Gilles Simon was pretty close and Del Potro had to struggle for 1 hour and 51 minutes to win the match. He won the match by 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

In the First two games of the first set, both the players held their service and the score was 1-1. But, after that, Del Potro thrashed the Frenchmen. He broke the service of Simon thrice and won the next five games in a row to win the first set by 6-1. After losing the first set, Simon was under pressure to make a comeback. In the first six games of the second set, both the players held their service and the scores were leveled at 3-3. But, in the seventh game, Simon got a break through and then, he held his service in the next game to take a lead of 5-3. To extend the set, Del Potro had to hold his service and he did exactly that to make the score 5-4. In the tenth game, Simon was serving for the set and he didn’t miss the opportunity. He held his service in the tenth game to win the second set by 6-4. In the third and final set, Del Potro played aggressively. He won the first three games of the set to take a lead of 3-0. Thereafter, he didn’t let Simon come back into the match and won the match.

Del Potro was overjoyed after winning the match. He said that he is playing well and he would like to continue the same momentum in the upcoming matches as well. In the quarter final, Del Potro will play against Kei Nishikori of Japan.
